Part 77
"We would still need to get out of the Country and with everyone being offered the same reward, we're going to be fighting from the time we pack up to leave until we get on the flight. It's going to be like the war of 1857, the Indian Rebellion. That's not including innocent civilians, we need to think of a safer way." Eric said.
"Sorry, there's no other way. It's through the crowds and over the water. It'll be harder for them to spot us, the weak ones will be looking for the safe way, and it's more of them than your aware of; this is the safest and fastest. I'm the third person he told, so he's giving us a few days before he goes to the next person; but I'm also the last he's giving a time frame. Everyone else will be notified as a group, he's giving us time get out of here before shit gets crazy."
"Why? I know he hates me and thinks I'm the reason Eric wants out of the agency. So, that doesn't add up. Unless we were told after everyone else."
Silence comforted the room while we looked at one another, attempting to process all of the possibilities. I don't know about them, but I'm ready to pack up and go. I instructed John to get what he needs to jump ship and told Eric to make some phones calls to get us out of here. John showed us quickly where ammunition, bullet proof vest, C4, and other guns are located. He said he wanted to make sure we were armed and ready for war, so we can all get to our place so we can pack. Eric interrupted him,
"We don't need to pack. If we can get enough to arm us, we'll be fine no matter where he go. We come up with a Country and we have a place to stay, so that part is covered."
I see that Eric's been setting up an exit plan way before I came along, it's always great to have an exit plan from the agency. We got everything we needed, bullet proof vest on and strapped; two hand guns, a fully loaded, extended clip for the AR-15 with extra ammo and C4 in backpacks. Before we got a chance to open the trap door there was an explosion. An explosion so powerful that it shook the house and cracks started to spider throughout the ceiling and walls. John yells out to head back, and we started running to the end of the corridor, and back through the door of the room we were once in. John opens a panel on the floor and pulls a bright green lever. A large steel door slams shut at the entrance we just passed through, the power goes out, and we're standing there in darkness not knowing if this was a set up by John or if the Old Man threw us to the wolves. After about three minutes of standing in the unknown, blue lights came on exposing John's tunneled escape route.
Allowing him to take the lead, our guns are drawn, and we're ready for whatever comes our way. John starts to jog and we follow closely behind, aiming our guns in front of us waiting for someone to appear in the blue darkness. John came to an abrupt halt looked down the corridor and pointed for us to go up the ladder but took the lead. I assume he did that because he noticed our hesitation, we may be running together, but it doesn't mean we can trust him.
At the top, there's light coming through a circular metal sheet that John didn't struggle to remove. When we reached the end of the ladder we were in an alleyway about four miles away from John's home. Eric pulls out a phone and makes a call to get a ride to meet us. Eric tells us that we are two miles southwest of our pickup location, but we need to stay off the street, and out of sight because we wouldn't be able to blend with our tactical gear and weapons. I guess we'll be cruising the alleyways for the next two plus miles.
