Part 80
“I love you too but the next time you’re hit, you need to say something sooner, don’t hide it.”
“I wasn’t hiding it, I didn’t want us to stop, and we were so close to the people that was trying to gun us down. I had a decision to make and made the decision that I thought was best for our three person team. It would’ve been best to lose one life and not all three.”
“We’re married and that means we make executive decisions together. What you think was better for the team, wasn’t. If I had lost you, there wouldn’t have been a reason for me to keep living, and where would that have left John?”
“I’m sorry! I didn’t think about it that way.”
I sat up straight and also apologized to John for my selfish decision making. Without notice, he wrapped his arm around my neck, kissed me on the forehead, and started to tell me that he understood why I made the decision, and that love is rare but powerful. I sat there looking at him, wondering if all the good men are here in the CIA fighting for their lives. While looking at the side of John’s face, I was able to see a large green waste truck coming for us from the side full speed.
I yell out, “danger on three.”
Tony punched the gas and slightly turned the wheel as he spoke softly for us to brace ourselves. John and Eric both held onto me making sure that I didn’t get too much of the impact. The waste truck hits the rear of the SUV spinning us several times, as soon as the SUV came to a halt, the doors flew open, and I was pulled out of the back seat and yelled at to run. Eric right behind me, Tony and Stephen running along side of me, but I didn’t see John.
“Where’s John? Where’s John?”
“He was pinned, he’s in the truck. Just keep running.”
I stopped dead in my tracks and headed back to the SUV, “we can’t leave him behind.”
Eric grabbed me, “the SUV is going to explode.”
Freeing my arms from his tight grasp, “more of a reason to help him.”
Running back as fast as I could, I was close enough to see the white in John’s eyes and hear him screaming at me to get back. I wasn’t going to leave him there to die and I sure is hell wasn’t going to let him go by himself. I took one more step and the explosion, the explosion was so powerful that I was thrown halfway down the block. Not because the one SUV exploded, but because vehicles on each side of the street started to explode as well, setting off a chain reaction.
Laying there unable to move, I look up and see Tony and Eric reaching for me. I can see their mouths moving, but couldn't hear anything they were saying. All I could hear is a loud annoying ringing sound. I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking I would've been safer in prison.
