Wasted talent

Wasted talent is not something I'm willing to be labeled as. In high school I was a decent athlete and a pretty good artist. I wasn't able to make a career off of sports, nor was I able to make a career out of my abilities to draw, paint, and mold. The gift that I have to write on the other hand will never be wasted. Even if I spend the duration of my life doing what I love, not earning a dime my talent is not wasted, but handed to others that enjoy the stories I tell.

Melted my heart, made me smile

I had a conversation with a supervisor from a different department earlier today, that gave me the biggest smile and more confidence to keep writing. She really enjoyed My First Kill but was a tad tired because she stayed up to finish it. Yeah, it takes you there. She only had one thing to say to me after the compliment, I didn't know your mind was like that. My reply, thank you very much!

Knowing who I am.

If it doesn't breed positivity, growth, and prosperity let it go. It's a hard task, it's something I personally struggle with. I try to help and fix people when I know that they have to be willing to help and fix their self first, but I still PUSH for them knowing what I know, because it's the right thing to do. Knowing your own problem is a step towards acceptance.

Reason, season, or lifetime

I saw this on someone's page (Mr. E. Linsley) and it touches my heart and fits my life about now. So please share and enjoy.

People come into your path for a reason, season, or a lifetime. When you know which one it is,  you will know what to do with that person(s). When someone is in your life for a REASON it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty..... To provide you with guidance and support..... To aid you physically,  emotionally, or spiritually..... They may seem like they are God sent and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then without any wrongdoing on your part, or at an inconvenient time,  this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die..... Sometimes they walk away..... Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.... What we must realize is that our need had been met, our desire fulfilled..... Their work is done! The prayer you sent up had now been answered and now it's time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow, and/or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it,  it's real,  but only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons. Things you must build upon to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson,  love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind, but friendship is clairvoyant. Thank you for being a part of my life..... Whether you were a reason, season, or a lifetime.

Three parts to one book

I've decided to section My First Kill into three parts. That way if you're like me and don't like commitment, one can purchase just the first section. Pushing, creating, and improving.

I try to write 2,000 words a day but I didn't take in consideration my life style as of now. A four hour commute to and from work, a full time gig,  and an infant that wants all of my attention as soon as I walk in the door, which is a great feeling.  Thinking of different ways to capture more time within my 24 hour day. Cloning maybe?

Thoughts

At times my life begins to unravel like an old knitted sweater. It first starts off with a little string, so I pull attempting to stretch myself to the limits and rid the eye sore. A few weeks later I notice how long the string has gotten and want to burn or cut it because it’s such a sight to see; but I leave it, in fear of damaging my beautiful old knitted sweater. After years pass and over a thousand washes, I sit and just pull the dang darn damn string because it begins to drive me nuts. My favorite old knitted sweater has seen better days and so have I. After pulling the string I bound it into a ball of yarn and noticed something more beautiful. The patterns of my struggles are not and will not be forgotten; instead I bound them all together and play with them like a kitten with a ball of yarn.

Playing catch up

The greatest thing about playing catch up is that you know you're going to get done and best of all its going to be better then what others expect. The Unknown is underway and looking great so far. The excitement of it all has me smiling ear to ear.

RIP Robin Williams

Depression is real! A lot of people believe that others should "just get over it", it's a lot more than that. Depression works it's way into some and breaks them down slowly. You'll still see smiles and laughter because depression has no face. It's simple, when I see people that seem to be hurting I don't just say hello or good morning. I stop and ask how they're doing. Better safe than sorry. RIP Robin Williams

The Unknown

A young lady hit me up this morning to let me know that she finished my book. She told me that she normally don't read much but finished this book and was waiting on the next one. That alone was enough for me to hop on it to get book two of this series completed. 

Stalking!

I've been stalking my email account for the past five weeks. Another two weeks and I should be hearing from the literally agent. I know I've been told plenty of times that one has to go through several rejections before one gets an acceptance. A friend once told me, if the first one is rejected try a different approach. Keep trying and making it better until it's right for someone. #pushing

My thoughts

I need to write. 

When things don't go as expected and slapping someone is not the answer. 

I need to write. 

When work gets too stressful and walking out is my first thought. 

I need to write.

After a long night of laughter, tears and new things to be taught.

When passion plays a part in all of my fears.

When my thoughts aren't humble and pleasing.

Basically, I just need to write because writing gives me a sense of pleasure and comfort without actually hurting someone.

HELP!

When I head out to work I always do two things. 1: put on my seatbelt and 2: thank God for waking me and giving me the heart to help people as he would. With that being said, we have to know who to help and when to stop. We can't help everyone, because not everyone hold the same values. The first two, maybe even three times you're helping, every time thereafter you enabling. 

Four day weekend. What to do?

Four day weekend, sounds like a weekend to relax and write. A little running around Saturday, Sunday hanging out with my homie, Monday and Tuesday I'll be getting some chapters done. Hopefully second book by late August. Some teasers coming soon. 

How does it start?

I woke up this morning smelling the morning air (sneezing because of my allergies, but still loving that smell of the morning dew) and thinking of a better way to commit murder, something more exciting, and different ways of getting away with it. Not almost getting away, but GETTING away to do it again. My mind races daily on different styles and obsessions that people have, ways that people would want to "get rid of someone" without getting caught. The biggest problem is, most people would have no idea how, but I do! This second book "The Unknown" will put you in the driver's seat, you'll take control of the steering wheel and travel down the path alongside Ryan. "My First Kill" will give you the understanding on how it all starts. It's heart pounding, breath taking, and you won't want to put it down until the last page. This novel is not about how the police and/or detectives catch these serial killers, it's written through the eyes of the sadist murders. My name (D. Odell Benson) was used as "giving Stephen King a run for his money". What better review can one ask for? The real question is.... Are you the next victim?

Agent phone interview

I was told, once my book is at it's peak I would lose friends and gain enemies because I would change. Can I handle that? Well, my reply to that... I will never change because I am who I am, my friends are my friends, and we just roll like that. I try my hardest to make time for my people, sometimes work or life gets in the way, but no one takes it personal. Needless to say, that book interview was a success. Now let's see if they are willing to sign me. 🙏 if not, no worries because the agent I truly want, I haven't contacted yet.

Twitter, Facebook, and other social media

I have been trying to promote my first book on social media and noticed on twitter, rappers follow rappers, writers follow writers, so basically all we are doing is promoting to one another. Hence then problem with elevating book sells and reviews. Now Facebook on the other hand is family and friends. Most families will assist you in journey to do better but friends... They want to see you do well but not better then them. So, where do I go and where do I start once I get there? So far I'm still in the process of getting something down. Just not sure what at the moment. This is all trial and error at this point, let's see how this works. Plan B is now in effect!

Promotion

Starting in the back woods of Shubuta Mississippi a killer was born, a methodical thinker to say the least. What happens when he escapes the grips of his abusive drunken father and goes out to face the World? Ryan Matters is a normal teenager, well that's how the people of Shubuta see him. Finally!!

In my head

Imagine the life you once knew was snatched from your grips. When reality sets in, the last you remember of our parents was your mother’s back as she left, and the memory of your murdered father laying between a steel surgical table and blood soaked sheets in the emergency room. The smell of stale blood fills the corridors of your nostrils while you stand, look, and start searching for the answer, why. Ryan and his best friend Matt, sets their eyes to murder as they see fit. But Ryan’s heart gets in the way, knowing the difference between what’s right and wrong. They were still fixated on the path of destruction and chaos, just to be followed and chased down by local bikers and gangs from different areas because of the murders they already committed. Racing through the streets of Georgia just to get away, hiding out in hotels or motels in North Carolina just to stay alive, then fleeing to Illinois to just kidnap a gang member that was attempting to collect on a bounty. They kill him in a dark and quiet memorial park just to use his body as bait to catch the rest of the gang members that was looking to collect on this bounty.  Gripping details, heart pounding outcomes, and blood soaked hands. What would you do if someone came after your family?

I wish

I wish I knew a little over a year ago what I know now. If I knew the ends and outs of actually writing a book when I first started the first book would have been done six months ago. (I say with a smile) Now I'm off editing my first three chapters of book two making sure the format is perfect and the storyline is flawless. I'm loving this, wish this was all that I had to do. Finally!

Finally finished the very last edit. The book is complete, just waiting on the improvements to the cover. Next, volume 2. There's nothing in this World that I want more than this to flourish. I will start looking for people that's willing to review my book. Where shall a girl start. EXCITED!!

I may not win the battle but I will win the war

I see myself as a person that has been through a lot. I've been through my share of trials and tribulations but I still stand on my own two. When I no longer have the strength to fight I see myself being guided by one of my many angels. Their wings guide me, their halo protects me, and the grace they have is within me. I say that to say... Although we are too tired to fight there is something stronger that will guide us through whatever we can't handle alone. #rehabtime

Who knows what her thoughts were, was it because she could no longer deal with the ways of her husband, did she realize she gave birth to a killer, or was she murdered by the son she spun? Ryan's not your average murderer, he's a thinker, over analyze then analyze again, reconstruct the scene before it happens in his mind, and educate himself on not being caught. Will this one day catch up to him? How many bodies will it take to bring this young serial killer to justice before the storyline finishes, before the bodies count rises, but remember, he's just getting started.
