Part 21
Before I had a chance to balance myself, I was tackled from the rear, hitting my head on the kitchen table, then the floor. In a daze, I knew that this could go terribly wrong and Matt never came in from the porch. I couldn't yell for him but if I could, what difference would it make; he made it clear that I was on my own when he didn't answer my question about them being alive. Taking blows to my face, I lift my legs, and was able to catch his head and one arm between my calves. I held on for dear life because shit, my life depended on it. I was able to flip him backwards, I scooted down so his face was between my thighs. Squeezing tightly, hoping he would pass out before the other guy showed up for round three of me getting my ass kicked.
I couldn't see because my eyes were swollen shut. My nose was broken and dripping with blood so I couldn't smell. On top of all of that, there's ringing in my ears, so hearing was also a problem. Standing in the middle of the floor hoping to feel whomever comes in my direction, so I can protect myself. I was in the same place it seemed like forever. That ringing in my ears, was still going strong but I was able to make out some muffled talking. I wasn't sure who was talking but I assumed Matt had to be one of the people. Feeling a stride in the walk of this heavy person, I stand my ground, and made sure I gave no indication that I knew they were coming. The bounce in their stride felt stronger, they were close but not close enough. A few more steps taken and I felt them shift their weight to the right of me. I duck and came up as fast and as hard as I could praying I would connect with anything on them. Hell, connecting with their shirt at this point would have given me a little understanding of where they were located; but I threw a wild punch and the only thing I connected with was air. Then there was a blow to the back of my head, it was too much for me to handle. I think by the time I hit the floor I was already knocked out, dreaming of my earlier years of playing High School football.
